No. 30. Vue panoramique de Constantinople et Pont de Galata [Panoramic view of Constantinople and the Bridge of Galata]
Penn Museum Image #166866

Happy Turkey Day!

What, you expected an actual turkey?

This week’s photo is a view of Istanbul (then Constantinople) and the Galata Bridge. The Galata Bridge spans the Golden Horn, an inlet of the Bosphorus Strait, the waterway that separates Europe and Asia. The Galata Bridge is now in it’s fifth build, with this photograph showing the third iteration. The image was taken circa 1890 by the photographers Jean Pascal Sebah and Policarpe Joaillier. Jean Pascal Sebah was the son of famous photographer Pascal Sebah. The Penn Museum Archives houses a large collection of prints by both generations of the Sebah’s.
