Description | Female mask. Wood, painted white, with red smiling mouth showing small white teeth (one tooth missing in center), thin curved black eyebrows and black hair decorated with red rosettes. Curved holes under eyes, small holes in nostrils. Gold and red crown with one row of rosettes, two rows of points. Crack on left side of face (fault in wood?). Mask used in Balinese dance-drama Wayang Wong to represent a refined female character: Sita or other noblewoman. |
