Description | This large pendant is made of a single thick strand of gold wire formed as a double spiral with a twisted central support. The double spiral form first appears both in beads and as an abstract design on cylinder seals during the Late Uruk period and continues throughout the first half of the third millennium BC. It is found at sites in Syria as well as in southern Mesopotamia. Although elusive, this form likely carried symbolic meaning. |
