Description | Physician Traveling prayer kit. Small paper three-way folder with woodblock print pasted to interior side. Metallic and orange colored thread covering. Central image of seated multi-armed Kannon with medicine bowl in lap. Title at bottom in Kanji characters: 京都 (Kyoto) 三十三間堂 (Sanjūsangen-dō ). Sanjūsangen-dō is officially known as Rengeo-in, Hall of the Lotus King. Side panels with lotuses. This print was found with a set of items with a label stating that the scrolls with glass rollers are part of a pocket case of a physician. This was found with them and is assumed to be part of the same set. Identical to CG98-1-171A and CG98-1-171E. Said to be carried by a soldier. |
