Amphora

Amphora with round handles, currently in 16 pieces. Both handles are preserved (one is in two pieces) and a large piece of the neck and rim. There are triple-grooved lines around the neck, below the top of the handle. The shoulder is ribbed, and the ribbing widens towards the bottom where it curves to form a petal shape. Below this are three grooved lines, and below this a section of molded sphinxes which face each other. There are another three grooved lines below the sphinxes.

The fragments appear to be imitation bucchero. The fabric is reddish with white, black, and red inclusions. A black coat has been applied on top, and is now shedding black dust.

The provenience is listed as Chianciano, but this seems unlikely.
