Description | large red jar, body tapering to flattened base; neck expanded then vertical: two vertical loop handles on body. Engraved and punctate design on neck. frogs in relief on shoulder. Narrow-necked jar/bottle with an ovate body, bulging neck, rounded rim, 2 strap handles on the body, and a rounded base. The vessel may have originally been red slipped and has punctate and incised geometric designs on the neck and two modeled frogs added to the shoulder. There appears to be a smoothed finish on the exterior and a smoothed finish on the interior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. Fireclouding is present on the body. The catalogue number is written on the object in black ink on the bottom of the base. Traces of black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "1893." |
