Description

Ovoid body, pointed base, cylindrical neck; two vertical loop handles on body. Painted jar with face on neck, ear disks with tassels in relief

Face-neck vessel. Narrow-necked jar/bottle with an Ovate body, cylindrical neck, rounded rim, 2 strap handles on the body, and a rounded base. The vessel has a red slip (?) with modeled/molded face including nose, ear spools, chin, and mouth. The face is painted over the raised features with white and black paint. On the body are painted arms. There appears to be a smoothed finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. The catalogue number is written in black ink. Black ink on interior of neck reads: "2755."
