Late 19th century
Pearl shell disc with incised geometric patterns filled with red ochre. Human hair belt. Such discs, originally worn as pubic ornaments, were also highly valued objects of exchange, traded hundreds of miles into the interior from the northwest coast of Australia, where they were made.
