Description | Reddish-brown female face with large round holes for eyes, nostril holes in broad nose, no lower jaw. Red upper lip, six mother-of-pearl teeth. Black arched eyebrows. Black hair decorated with five red rosettes across forehead, forming (separately carved) loops at sides of head. Round white ear plugs. Paint chipped on forehead, tip of nose, cheeks. Female comic character (possibly Nyoman Semariani?) in Balinese Topeng dance drama. (See Slattum, Judy. 2003. Balinese Masks: Spirits of Ancient Drama. pp. 54-55) |
