Description | Pottery. Compound form: lower vessel globular with flattened base: upper, globular bottle with cylindrical neck and flaring lip; two vertical loop handles span the constriction between the vessels. Narrow-necked jar/bottle with a double lobed body, flaring neck, missing rim, 2 strap handles on the body, and a flat base. No molded/modeled additions. The vessel is painted with geometric designs around the two lobes of the body in white, black, orange, red, and purple. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange and buff in color. Fireclouding is present on the body. The catalogue number is written on the bottom of the base and black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "1852." |
