Description

Tomb 2A = Herscher Tomb 802A. White Painted III jug with beak spout. Fragmentary. Fine hard light red clay with light gray interior. Light red to yellow slip; lustrous dark red to brown slip, black in one area. Round base, piriform body; cylindrical neck, spout not preserved; angular vertical handle, square in section, from rim to upper body; pointed lug at front neckline. Decoration (preserved): solid base; on body, vertical cross-hatched panels alternating with multiple vertical zigzags; on neck, horizontal wavy line framed by two straight lines; on handle, three vertical lines.
