Description | Body-sherd from a closed vessel. Medium textured, strong brown (7.5 YR 5/6) clay, with decoration in dark reddish brown to black paint. Handmade. Wiped with water. Decoration not identifiable. Comments: MM I-III. For comments on the Middle Minoan Dark-on-light Styel see MS4638.1. The interior of the sherd is covered with an incrustation of ancient plaster-like material, broken away at one corner to reveal a layer of red below. Perhaps this is the remains of the contents of the jar. |
