Description | Globular body, tapering neck. With four arms of the cuttle-fish on upper body around the neck. Narrow-necked jar/bottle with a globular body, tapered neck, rounded rim, no handles, and a flat base. No molded/modeled additions. The vessel is painted with four black octopus/cuttle-fish arms on the shoulder outlined in white with white circles. The vessel is painted red. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere with localized reduction as the ceramic paste is orange to gray in color. Fireclouding is present on the body. Evidence of usewear includes residue/accretion on the bottom. The catalogue number is written on the object in black ink. No other numbers are visible on the object. |
