Fish Basket

Fish basket made from a coconut frond. Split leaflets are plaited, in a twill pattern, to make a small, flat container. The braids that finish the bottom of the basket are extended up the sides and secured just under the rim, forming handles. Such baskets are made and used by women, to hold small fish caught by driving them together with large hand nets in shallow water. They are worn tied around the waist at the back, like fanny packs.
