Description

Plaid sarong (tembe paleka). Plaid sarongs are worn by all ages and both sexes in Donggo. The classic Donggo tembe paleka has a black ground with vertical and horizontal reddish and white complex stripes forming a plaid. Back panel and wide border of the darkest stripe color. This example is coarse cotton (kafa galia) dyed with local indigo and rose dye bought in Sila. Hand sewn. Made in 1982, Ese Wawo hamlet. Black, with rose and white unbalanced plaid. Back panel rose with narrow blue vertical stripes. Rose border stripes.
