Description | Angular, depressed, cylindrical neck. With a face. One loop handle shoulder to neck. Plain. Face-neck vessel. Narrow-necked jug with a carinated body, cylindrical neck, rounded rim, 1 strap handle extending from the neck to the body, and a flat base. The vessel has a modeled and incised face on the neck with ears, eyes, nose, and mouth. There appears to be a smoothed finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. Fireclouding is present on the body. There are striations and scratches on the exterior surface. The catalogue number is written on the bottom of the base and black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "274." |
