Description

Pottery: painted red black and white. Globular with flattened base; cylindrical neck with everted lip; two vertical loop handles on body; face modeled on neck. Painted chevron design on upper body and neck.

Face-neck vessel. Narrow-necked jar/bottle with an ovate body, hyperboloid neck, outward sloping rim, 2 strap handles on the body, and a flat base. The vessel has a modeled and incised face on the neck including ears, nose, mouth, and incised eyes. The face and body are painted in white, black, and red. The body has abstract curvilinear and geometric designs painted. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. The catalogue number is written on the bottom of the base and black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "1548."
