Description

Plaid sarong with figures (tembe paleka-salunka). Predyed synthetic (nggoli). Machine sewn. Made in 1981, Saleri hamlet. Elaborate: made for a wedding. Dark red, with overall pattern consisting of rows of banyan trees (orange & white) and butterflies (white/green & yellow/blue). Panel defined by zig-zags (nagi) in blue, green, white. Nested diamonds down center. Border stripes yellow, with row of hot pink pyramids (tumpal) one end. Maker's name, "HALIFA", in mirror-writing.
