Description

The world of the ancient Maya and other peoples of the region come alive in the Penn Museum’s Mesoamerican Gallery! See impressive circular altars and grand stone monuments, including the massive stone stela that was instrumental in the early decoding of the Maya hieroglyphs. Experience the brilliantly colored polychrome pottery depicting the life and rituals of the Mayan priests, as well as terracotta figurines, instruments for ritual blood-letting, and hand-carved jade jewelry once worn by the wealthy elite.

Public tours are included in Museum admission and do not require advance reservation.
