Borneo Odyssey

This experimental performance is based on the 1896–1898 Penn Museum expeditions to northern Borneo made by William Furness III, Alfred Harrison, Jr., and Hiram Hiller. Items from the Penn Museum Archives collections are re-interpreted into performance featuring a talking orangutan, recounting tales of discovery and calling for audience interaction. Artists are Skowmon Hastanan, Joel Holub, Jeff Gottesfeld, Leesa Abahuni, Theodore Kersten, Karen Ostrom, Katia Berg, Toma Fichter, Marti Cormand, Eric W. Schnittke, and the Penn Museum community. Free admission. (Separate admission fee required to view Museum galleries.)

Borneo Odyssey is made possible through a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, and PECO. The University of Pennsylvania Provost's Interdisciplinary Seminar Fund and the Penn Art and Culture Initiative are co-sponsors of the event.
