The Education Department at Penn Museum offers several opportunities for educators: Teachers' Workshops, Professional Development Days, and Educators' Evenings.

Teacher Workshops, typically held on Saturdays from 9am - 3pm, are interactive lecture and craft workshops designed by Museum staff and co-sponsors. Professional Development Days, typcially held during a school day, are tailored by principals or school districts to fulfill specific curriculum needs. Both programs are designed to fulfill Act 48 and New Jersey Professional Development credits. Educator Evenings allow teachers the opportunity to network with fellow educators. Educators browse Penn Museum's current exhibitions and learn how Penn Museum programming can supplement classroom curriculum.

This workshop, originally scheduled for Thursday, February 25, has been rescheduled for Friday, March 19, 2010.

The January 12 earthquake in Haiti has touched our hearts and minds. This evening is designed for those who desire to help and to learn more about the culture of this Caribbean country. Teachers have the opportunity to receive professional development credits.

Join Haitian community leaders and other humanitarian groups of the Philadelphia region in their efforts to provide relief for the people of Haiti. Discover the culture of the Republic of Haiti through an introduction to its history, languages, and politics. Get a glimpse of daily life in Haiti through two of its former citizens, Numa St. Louis and Benedick Guillaume.

Philadelphia and New Jersey teachers may receive 2 hours of Act 48 or professional development credit.

Please make checks payable to either ESF or HPP, the sponsors of the evenings’ program. Cash also accepted.

About the evening’s presenters
Numa St. Louis was born in New York and grew up in Haiti. Numa received his undergraduate degree in International studies from the State University of New York at Oswego and did his graduate work at Temple University, He is a regular contributor to Radio Haiti of Philadelphia as a political analyst and correspondent. He is currently working as an ombudsman for the School District of Philadelphia.

• Benedick Guillaume was born in Haiti and educated there until age 13. He moved to the United States in 1994, graduated from LaSalle University, and is currently working for UPHS at Penn Presbyterian as critical care nurse in the coronary intensive care unit. He is pursuing a degree in the Masters Program at St Joseph University and Nazareth Hospital.

Explorers Sans Frontières is a non-profit program under the Greater Philadelphia Urban Affairs Coalition and has existed for 2 years, supporting over 55 outreach projects and 3 international mission trips with both local students and professionals. ESF in partnership with HPP and HCP is in the process of mobilizing a team of professionals to Haiti both in the immediate and future. ESF is also mobilizing students at local colleges to donate the necessary supplies and monetary support required for this mission. Haitian Professionals of Philadelphia (HPP) was established in November 2008 to help elevate Philadelphia’s Haitian community through education, professional development, and mentorship. Elise Joseph Foundation is a non-profit Philadelphia-based organization whose mission is to serve the Haitian and Haitian-American communities through education, cross-cultural promotion, health promotion and humanitarian relief.

Haitian Professionals of Philadelphia (HPP) was established in November 2008 to help elevate Philadelphia’s Haitian community through education, professional development, and mentorship.

Elise Joseph Foundation is a non-profit Philadelphia-based organization whose mission is to serve the Haitian and Haitian-American communities through education, cross-cultural promotion, health promotion and humanitarian relief.
