New Acquisitions

The Penn Museum stewards one of the largest and oldest university museum collections of cultural material in the US. While many objects came from excavations or were acquired during anthropological fieldwork, others have been donated, purchased, or acquired via exchange with other cultural institutions. In order to ensure the protection of the world’s cultural heritage, the Penn Museum follows a strict policy for new acquisitions that requires documentation of an object’s history, place of origin, and legal export from its country of origin. The Museum’s collections continue to grow and play an essential role in supporting the Museum’s mission to engage the public in an ongoing dialogue on our shared human experience.
