I am very curious about the cultural dynamics between contemporary urban life and how it affects the rural groups trying to preserve their traditional livelihoods while living in and around urban centers.

Perhaps connected with the urban/rural, modernity/tradition discussion, it would be interesting to learn about gender in contemporary African societies. What kind of role do women have in the home? In the work force? In the consumer market? Have these roles evolved separately or together? What sorts of societal expectations shape her life?
