A docent takes a group of teachers on a tour of the Mummies exhibit. We provide guided gallery tours for an enhanced museum experience to a wide range of groups, from kindergarten classes to retirement communities. In 2010–2011, our 60 highly trained volunteer docents led over 33,000 people through our galleries.

Docent-led tours are available for educators, community groups, and the general public. Docents provide an opportunity for your group to make cross cultural connections within the galleries.

Choose from the following tour options:

Reservations
Reserve your private docent-led tour at least 2 months in advance. Tours fill up quickly! Our trained docents enhance your group’s visit and add to your enjoyment with their knowledgeable commentary. In special cases, gallery tours can be customized for particular interests.

Tours are typically offered on weekdays (Tuesday-Friday) at 10 am or 11 am and last one hour. Afternoon and weekend guided tours are available on a limited basis (with varied start times). Each gallery can accommodate one tour at a time, with the exception of Egypt, which can accommodate up to three groups at one time. Public tours are available on select weekends* and are included with Museum admission.  Reservations are not required for the public tours. See our Events Calendar for more information.

Group Size
We require a minimum of 15 people and a maximum of 30 people for each guided tour. Please note that Ancient Greece is limited to 22 people. For school groups we require one adult for every 10 children.

Rates
Children and Students (with ID): $5 Group Admission + $2 per person per tour
Adults: $7 Group Admission + $2 per person per tour
Seniors: $5 Group Admission + $2 per person per tour

Payment
Payment in full for docent-led tours must be made no later than two weeks prior to the tour date. No refunds or credits will be given after payment is processed.
