Summer Vacation

August 28, 2009

Ah, our lantern slide collection. A cornucopia of preservation problems and cataloging head-scratchers. Here’s a sunny image for a rainy day here in Philadelphia:

"Yachting." View from the center of a boat, across the bow, with the sail down around the boom. Several women in Edwardian dress on different parts of the boat, while a man with his back to the camera faces the water, looking down. Photograph by T.S. and R.C. Stewart. Collection labeled "Medical School Donations," possibly from the collection of the Carpenter family. Penn Museum image #218711

Sometimes working in the archives is like being a contestant on “What in the World?” We’re not experts in any one area, and it’s difficult to figure out what’s happening in an image, where it came from, and why we have it. However, this doesn’t keep us from enjoying our extremely eclectic collection.
