RegisterThe Penn Museum’s long-running excavations at the site of Abydos continue to reveal new insights. Ongoing investigation of the mysterious Anubis-Mountain royal necropolis—the location of more than a dozen royal tombs spanning 1850-1650 BCE—as well as a range of urban, industrial, religious, and funerary structures continues to shed new light and generate new questions on Egypt’s past. Dr. Josef Wegner reviews results of more than two decades of work and shares recent discoveries, issues under investigation, and ongoing heritage initiatives—presenting a nuanced look of how Egypt’s ancient past connects with the present.
