Join us for a screening of the documentary film Ainu: Indigenous People of Japan, which captures the lives of the Ainu people in their town of Biratori in Hokkaido and the efforts of the communities’ elders to keep their culture alive.

Following the screening, Professor Julia Alekseyeva will moderate a Q&A with filmmaker Naomi Mizoguchi.

Naomi Mizoguchi

Emmy award winning filmmaker Naomi Mizoguchi has been working in the film and television industry for more than 30 years, directing more than 100 film and television projects. In 2008 she co-established the non-profit organization Cineminga to provide training and equipment for indigenous peoples in Colombia, Ecuador, and Nepal. She established GARA FILMS in 2014, and continues to create films that offer intimate portrayals of individual lives across the world.
