Take a weekly trip around the world from the comfort of your own home! The Penn Museum's World Wonders morning summer series celebrates the diversity of the world’s cultures through live virtual interactive workshops and activities for school-aged children and their families. Many of our workshops include activities that you can make with us while watching at home. Check the program descriptions for recommended materials so you are ready to make and create with us.

Imagine a vibrant, colorful community celebration of loved ones who have passed on so that they are never forgotten. This special workshop invites you to learn about this celebration: Mexico’s “Day of the Dead.” Mexico’s modern traditions honor both ancestral customs and contemporary values. See how the riches of the country’s geography connect to the deep meaning of this holiday’s traditional altars and discover the symbolism of each element. Explore how the famous candy skulls are made and why they are so important. Then, celebrate the Day of the Dead with a craft activity and a poetry ready from Carlos in Nahuatl, the language of the powerful Aztecs.
*Recommended Materials: Tissue/colored/craft paper, scissors.
