A tapa cloth is a bark cloth made in the islands of the Pacific Ocean. It is made by softening the inner bark of shrubs and trees and pounding it into thin strips. These strips are then glued into one huge sheet and decorated with geometric patterns. Investigate the natural materials and symbols used in tapa cloths in our collection, then plan your own design with drawings of animals, flowers, or patterns you see in your community.
