Part of the Culture Film SeriesSecond Sunday Culture Films is an independent documentary series connecting the Wolf Humanities Center’s annual topic to a cultural theme. Borderless, our 2021-2022 theme, is inspired by the Center’s topic of Migration. Join us as we gather cultural perspectives from filmmakers across the world who focused their lenses on Indigenous peoples grappling with borders imposed on their land.
Empty Desert (Bedouin) 2016
56 min. Dir. Linda Paganelli & Silvia Boarini
Though the Bedouin are traditionally nomadic shepherds, moving through territories to provide water for their flocks, they have gradually been forced to settle. But they are not necessarily allowed to settle permanently. In this film we see a snapshot in time just before border walls were erected.
Speakers: Directors Linda Paganelli and Silvia Boarini in conversation with Ibrahim Bakri, Assistant Director, Penn Middle East Center.
