Join the Penn Museum for Opening Festival - a once-in-a-generation celebration of our new Middle East Galleries! This two-day festival features live performances, markets and arts events celebrating the range and diversity of Middle Eastern tradition and innovation!

11:00am Opening Ceremony Join us as we open the Middle East Galleries with a ribbon cutting ceremony and community. (Middle East Galleries)
11:00am-2:00pm Lore and Legacy Explore the Museum's early excavations in Mesopotamia with "Unearthed in the Archives: Middle East Edition." (Archives)
11:30am Youth Adventures: Storytime Hear tales from the Middle East during a special Children's Storytime. (Pepper Hall)
11:30am, 12:30pm, 2:30pm, 3:30pm Exchange with an Expert Talk with a curator, graduate student, researcher, or designer who helped to shape the new Galleries-drop in and ask questions during our Exchange with an Expert sessions. (Pepper Hall)
11:45am Middle East Beats Learn to play the doumbek! Try your drumming skills in the Middle Eastern Drum Workshop. (Egypt (Mummies) Gallery)
1:15pm & 2:45pm Scribe Vibes: Cuneiform Edition Learn to write cuneiform and make your own clay tablet to take home during the Cuneiform Tablet Workshop. (Egypt (Sphinx) Gallery)
1:30pm & 3:00pm Epic of Gilgamesh: Live Performance See scenes from the epic of Gilgamesh enacted with puppets. (Widener Lecture Hall)

2:30pm Opening Lectures Hear curators of the Middle East Galleries provide an in-depth exploration of objects and themes explored in the Galleries in this Lecture. (Widener Auditorium)

Middle East Bazaar Sample tea and food from the region in a special opening weekend marketplace.
Spice Exploration Smell, touch, and learn about the spices of the Middle East at a Spice Cart.
Urban Crafting! Lego Edition Try out your own city planning skills by Building a Lego City.
Mix and Match Explore the biodiversity of the Middle East with a Map Matching Game.
Digital Journeys A special virtual reality experience in the Nevil Classroom: explore the landscape of the Middle East and see some Penn excavation sites through Google Cardboard.
Insta-Hunt Travel the Middle East Galleries, hunting for clues in an Instagram Scavenger Hunt. Collect all the sites to win a prize!
