This Object Location Map allows easy browsing and discovery of objects in our collection via a geographic interface that uses place names and their geocoded locations. By zooming in and out on the map or clicking on one of the numbered blobs, you can refine your search all the way down to a specific place name. Then by clicking on the link attached to that place name you’ll be presented with the search results of all the objects associated with that place name in our online collections database. From there you can browse them as you like, with the breakdown of available facets on the left hand of the screen if you want to focus your results even more.
Please note that this browse and discovery interface does not capture all Museum objects in its scope. Because it relies on geocoded place names, objects associated with place names that are either too broad (e.g. “Near East”), too specific (e.g. “Cemetery 2”), or too obscure (e.g. “cumaruara”) are not geocoded here. The good news is that it does provide access to more than 92% of our online collections and you can always augment your discovery by trying our collections search function for in-depth browsing and research.
