Description

The double frame has bowed hardwood ends. Besides the upper opening, the calabashes have each more than one hole, covered with the egg sacs of spiders. There are sixteen keys and a corrsponding number of calabashes (one missing?) in a double row. The attribution to the Mandingo is taken from the dealer's tag (Oldman), and though vague may well be correct as far as it goes. There is a label, dated 1899, of Stallard and Co., 4 Albemarle St., London, addressed to W. Primrose Mills, Esq., 14 Campden Hill Gardens, "with Chief Justice Stallard's compliments."
