Description | Sommerville: Antique paste. A Warrior returning with his trophies. An important fragment of a large cameo covered with blue enamel. Antique Pastes, Case XXX. Vermeule: Ancient paste, covered with blue enamel. Cameo. Fragment of a triumpal scene, a female prisoner at the right, seated beneath a trophy, of shields, banners, spears, and a long sword and a draco or carnyx visible beside the prisoner's head, at the lower right. A rare and important fragment, probably dated ca A.D. 180, from parallels on the column of Marcus Aurelius. |
