Description | Pottery. Body flattened laterally; two vertical loop handles on shoulder. Painted: Bird derivative. At present lacks neck. Narrow-necked jar/bottle with a lentoid body, missing neck, missing rim, 2 strap handles on the body, and a flat base. No molded/modeled additions. The vessel is painted red with a repeated stylized "bird" design in black, red, purple, and white. The handles are painted with a black and white criss-cross design. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior and a smoothed finish on the interior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. The catalogue number is written on the bottom of the base and black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "2114." |
