Description | Paper scroll. Kakemono. One of a pair on same subject, the rebirth into the land of bliss or Ōjōyōshū (往生要集). Hanging is of pongee silk on paper; the painting is made up of 6 panels of 20 scenes, purgatories, hells, divided by bright blue bands. Note says these are late middle 19 century copies of a painting by Genshin (10th century) in the Raiko-ji temple. The painting appears to be a number of pages of a book which have been cut and pasted together then colored by hand. Crude colors, bright blue bands separating pictures. See companion: 29-96-507. |
