Description | 647 (P. Betancourt's 1991 publication) Miniature jug with one vertical handle and trefoil mouth; concentric string marks. Medium textured, reddish yellow (5 YR 7/6) clay with light and dark inclusions, micaceous. Wiped with water. Undecorated. Intact. Fifty-six miniature vases are mentioned in the Find Book for Gournia, wiht references to an indefinite number of others. The few for which find spots were recorded show that they came from various places around the town. Eight small jugs were found in E29, and others were found singly. They were probably functional because shapes which could not be reproduced in miniature without eliminating their function (i.e. fireboxes, cooking pots, or stands) do not occur as small versions, while most other shapes do. |
