Description | Plain. Turnip-shaped with flaring neck; two vertical loop handles on body. Narrow-necked jar/bottle with an ovate body, flaring neck, outward sloping rim, 2 strap handles on the body, and a flat base. There are no molded/modeled additions and no decoration. There appears to be a smoothed finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. The vessel is very roughly burnished on the exterior. Evidence of usewear includes surface attrition on the bottom/base. The catalogue number is written on the bottom of the base and black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "1917." |
