Description | Man's ceremonial cloth. Red plain weave, warp faced cotton with alternating purple and yellow stripes. Two breadths bound by randas of cotton and silk thread in multiple colors alternating with red. Four identical design units in corners and similar groupings of design units in the center. Design elements include double headed birds, animals, geometric forms. As per Sigrid Meier, "Warp: 52 epi, three singles, Z twist, red and yellow cotton and two ply purple cotton. Weft: 20 ppi, three singles, Z twist, red cotton. Warp faced plain weave. Supplementary weft is two faced. Two panels, four selvedges each. Woven on a backstrap loom." |
