Description

This tablet shows the Buddha seated with his right hand on his knee in `bhumisparsa mudra', or the calling the earth gesture. The coiled serpent spreads its muti-headed hood over the Buddha to protect him from the floods sent by Mara, an evil god who attempts to prevent the Buddha from attaining enlightenment.
