Description | Wooden Katsina doll. The face is painted white with a plumed serpent on each cheek. The area above the eyes is painted with a yellow and orange terraced design. A painted brim sits above the forehead. Tufts of feathers are attached to the top and back of the head. Clouds are painted on the back of the head, as well. The body is painted white and orange and a kilt is painted around the waist. This figure is the Water Serpent (Palolokong or Palulukon) Katsina. (Colton, H. 1959 #233, Wright, B., 1973 #198) |
