Description | Figurine of the type of Makonda, representing or symbolizing a tutelary spirit of children, invoked by expectant mothers who have previously lost children. Such figures belong to the class of therapeutic agencies and normally have "medicine" attached or applied in a way characteristic of Lower Congo magical images. This figurine had perhaps never been "consecrated" by the medicine -man. Wooden female figure holding breasts and wearing pointed striated cap. |
