Description | Pierced handle at back with two parallel incised lines running up length of handle; large disc dominates top of lamp with youthful figure of Herakles or Mercury standing, with two fill holes, one off center and the other between the feet of the figure. The disc proper is defined by two incised lines one within the other. Grape and vine leaf design decorate the rim; Heart-shaped nozzle, base flat and defined by incised circle between and three other closely incised circles (one within the other three pairs); within the latter mentioned is a potter's stamp. Off-white brown clay with no evidence of polish or glaze. mold made. |
