Description | 864A and 428 (P. Betancourt's 1991 publication) Conical bowl with slightly concave profile, flat base, and three small knobs as feet; vertical handle. Fabric is coarse but not visible beneath red (10 YR 4/6) to dark red (10 YR 3/6) paint; decoration in added white paint. Added white: three sets of pendent concentric semicircles in interior. Intact, except for handle. Marked with tag no. 864a. This is a miniature version of 4100. Compare Hawes et al. 1908: pl. 2, nos. 25-26 (Gournia). For the decoration see Chapouthier and Charbonneaux 1928: 52 and pl. 26, no. 2 (Mallia). The Find Book from Gournia lists four other bowls of this shape, two decorated and two plain (p. 131, nos. 850 and 864-866). |
