Description | Plaited bag for sago (om yowo) (yowo = bag, om = sago). Plaited bag with strap. Twp kinds of fiber are interwoven; a midrib of the andin plant and a bark from the ban tree strap is of Gnetum. made by women. used for carrying and storing sago; hung from house rafters in order to keep sago away from insects and animals. This specimen is dark from use. Plastic rice bags are a substitue nowadays. For more data see Kirsch field notes. Made by Wembirip, clan unknown, Dome village. Purchased from her son in law, Kutem Buru, Namanggo clan, Dome village 4/11/88/. Made for collection. |
