Description

Sommerville: Carnelian. Group of Silenus, a Bacchante, and a Candidate for admission to the Bacchic mysteries. An intaglio. Intaglios and Their Imprints, Case DDD.

Vermeule: Sard. Intaglio. (Ringstone - unmounted) A scene of Bacchic initiation. Silenus receiving a candidate for admission to Dionysiac mysteries in the presence of a Maehad who stands holding a thrysus at the left; a column at right. Graeco-Roman.
