Description | Sommerville: Carnelian. Pudicitia, a personification of Modesty, worshipped in Greece and at Rome. Gold Rings - Intaglios, Case EEE. Vermeule: Carnelian. Intaglio. (Modern Gold Ring Setting) Veiled bust identified by Sommerville as Pudicitia, a personification of modesty facing to left. She wears a wreath of flowers and leaves; and therefore the artist based his design upon a head of Demeter or Icore, as well as the Pudicitia statuary type in the Vatican and at Holkham Hall.
