Description | Vase with a round open mouth and sloped rounded shoulders with a long waisted body flaring into wider round body tapering to a round base. It has applied carved handles with hornlike heads and scrolled headdress. Bearded terminations applied to shoulder of body. Three high scrolled feet with monster mask heads. Exterior and upper interior has blue soft Jun glaze, varying soft lavender blue to blue tinged with red. The rest of the interior and the bottom of the legs is unglazed. Unsigned. Foot repaired. Wooden stand (B). The Jun glaze is common to the Song Dynasty but the shape suggests it was made in the 19th Century for the tourist trade. |
