Description | Wooden Katsina doll of two figures carved from one piece of wood. One figure is painted yellow with a white underbelly. It has a protruding mouth and feathers on either side of its head. Bands of black with yellow spots are painted on the forearms and legs. The second figure is riding the back of the first. The face is divided by a white and black line into a white and an orange half. A single, blue flower blossom ear is present. The body is painted white and red. These figures are likely the Wolf (Kweo) and Stick (Malo) Katsinam. (Colton, H. 1959 #86 & #130, Wright, B., 1973 #164 & #176) |
