Description | Statue of the parinirvana of the Buddha. The Buddha is depicted reclining on his side on a bed/chaise which bears an inscription on the front and back. The Buddha figure is removable.The writing on the base of the reclining Buddha statue is written in Pali and Tai Lan Na languages with the Dhamma script. Tai Lan Na, here referring to the vernacular language of Northern Thailand, is also known as Tai Yuan and Kam Mueang. The inscription provides the date of the statue production to be the year 1259 of the Chunla Sakka era in the Year of the Rooster (equivalent to 1897 CE). Apart from the date, the inscription text mentions the main initiators to be Phya Suphan and his wife, Nang Khammuan, who donated to build this statue along with their children, extended family, and servants, to sustain the Buddhist religion for 5000 years. |
